AGNES

THREE STAGES OF PAINTING AGNES
This past winter I went to a local farm and took photographs of the Scottish Highlander cows.  This cow had just given birth to a calf that same day.  I loved the expression on her face and the fact that icicles had formed on her fur/hair.  It was a very cold day, possibly -20 degrees,  her calf was shivering in the corner and I wondered if it would survive. Later, I found out the calf has survived and feel her mom merits being part of my collection, mostly due to this story.

REALM BELOW
by Deb Riopelle
12 x 16
watercolor on canvas

My intent is to show that even in a small ecosystem there is wonderfull grandeur of creation making it majestic.  I chose to  paint this image to describe a phase of life into an aquatic kingdom .  The phase completes an entire circle.  Beginning with the the sunlight peering through the image creating photosynthesis for the plantlife.  Also, there is a bodily image as the head and arm shadowing over the surface to give a sense of higher power and creation. Then the tadpoles are feeding on the vegetation for nourishment. In the painting some tadpoles are swimming in a school and others are growing legs and their heads are beginning to develop.  At the end of the lifecycle a mature frog has developed.  Enjoy...

ANGUS, AGNESS, AND THE HUNGRY CALVES

These Scottish Highland cows are being raised at a farm near Delhi Ontario, it was a brisk Sunday afternoon, about -20 celsius when I toured and took pictures.  Their hair protects them from the harsh cold winters hence the icicles that have formed.  These three watercolors are the result of my day trip.

WINTER RAYS by Deb Riopelle

Looking at this Acrylic I feel the heat from the sun's rays at sunset.  The heat is creating a hard crust on top of the snow and soon the rabbits will not longer leave footprints. Beware not to put away your mitts and hat it is still a long winter.

MASSAGE IN A BOTTLE

This acrylic painting is currently being displayed in my massage therapist waiting room.  She had a huge bare wall and I offered to paint something calm and relaxing to suit the room décor.

WINGS AND PETALS

A 16 by 20 inch acrylic painting began as demo to help teach a friend how to paint.  I returned to the painting a few weeks later and realized its potential.  VOILA  The photo doesn't give the painting justice as it was painted mostly in interference colors.

SALVIA-plein air

I painted this watercolor of the Salvia outside in front of the Art Center recently.  It was in full bloom and blowing in the wind. I painted it very loose to suggest it waving back and forth.
